Who Needs a Specialist and Why?
Click image to go back to Anxiety Topics. If you are experiencing uncomfortable levels of anxiety, or if you find yourself described in one of the anxiety disorders mentioned above, you would probably benefit from a consultation with an anxiety specialist. Until recently, anxiety was rather difficult to treat, and was treated much the same as all other mental disorders. Now, however, new research has shown the clinical community ways of resolving anxiety symptoms rather quickly. What this means for you is that you don't have to suffer from anxiety. Nor do you have to put up with an interminable exploration of your childhood. You can get symptom relief rather quickly - in fifteen sessions or so. So why wait and suffer in silence . . . .

The question frequently comes up, "Why can't I treat myself for the anxiety?"

This is a very good question. First, most people with anxiety don't have the information base necessary for effective treatment. You wouldn't try treating yourself for heart disease; you would go to a cardiologist. The same holds true with anxiety.

Second, people with anxiety are often very bright. This means that you are very good at inventing reasons and excuses for not doing what you need to do to resolve the anxiety. Your anxiety specialist will hold you accountable. This will help keep you on track, and help you resolve your anxiety disorder far more quickly than if you try to go it alone.

Third, you need someone who is an expert with these disorders. If you are troubled with anxiety, you are scared and you don't trust yourself and others. You need to consult with someone who knows what he/she is doing, and who has treated lots of others with anxiety. This can give you the reassurance you need to continue with your treatment until the anxiety is fully resolved.
