The answer to this question depends on the kind depression that you have and the severity. With a grief reaction, we may simply talk about the loss that you sustained and the significance of your loss. With an adjustment disorder, we may problem solve -- looking at the stressors which are affecting you. With seasonal affective disorder, we would help you get full-spectrum light bulbs or lamps.
If the adjustment disorder is serious, or if you are dysthymic or have a major depression, we will employ cognitive behavior therapy. This is the treatment of choice for these disorders. We may also refer you for a medication evaluation for an adjunct pharmacological treatment with one of the many antidepressants on the market.
